I am thrilled to have sold this muscle car legend, the classic 1968 Dodge Charger, finished in Dodge White with RT black decal stripes and dark red leatherette interior.
The Charger’s imposing silhouette is unmistakeable and strikes a chord with anyone who has petrol running through their veins. This Charger is a pristine example after having had a 3 year restoration lavished upon it with passion and care to its’ condition and sympathetic updating.
Understood to have been manufactured and registered in the USA in January 1968, this edition is believed to be a matching numbers and original chassis car featuring the 383ci (6.3ltr) Big Block V8, Automatic gearbox with power steering.
It was purchased by the vendor from the USA in December 2015, arriving in the UK in January 2016. The vendor then took it to a specialist to start on the fastidious restoration of the body, as whilst it was obvious the car was in good order, the years were showing in areas of the metal work. So the entire car was taken back to bare metal, replacement panels fitted to the areas required before completing the repaint in striking Dodge White.
The engine and drivetrain are in great order, with the engine featuring high lift cams and covers from Mickey Thompson, now with the addition of a new Magnum style 4 barrel carburettor. All fluids have been changed and it runs beautifully.
Stopping power has been added in the form of a new vacuum pump going with the popular modern upgrade of Wilwood disc brakes all round with 4 pot callipers, ensuring the V8 Muscle stops as well as it goes. Steering has also been much improved with the introduction of an electric steering pump to improve the factory power steering, ensuring the car handles just as well as the ones in the nostalgic TV shows or the legendary car chase from the Steve McQueen film Bullitt.
Whilst the mechanical and metal works have been thoroughly restored, with the underside being fully sealed, the interior was in very good condition so only subtle restoration has been needed to some of the panels and roof lining, otherwise leaving originality to the deep red upholstery and dashboard.
The parts that have been added to the car are as follows:
- New wiring loom throughout the car
- New Wilwood disc brakes all round with new servo
- New 3″ Stainless exhaust fitted (from manifolds back) and this sounds impressive!
- New Electrical steering pump
- New Vacuum for brakes and headlight eyelids
- New Magnum 4 Barrel carburettor
- New Radiator and electric fan
- New Battery with kill switch
- New fuel lines
- New brake lines
- New American sport alloys
- New tyres
- New horn added
- Electric window motors refurbished or replaced as required
- Steering box refurbished
Overall the car presents in fantastic condition and performs as one would expect for a Charger of this era, creating a smile from ear to ear.
The car is supplied with a new and unused tailor-made Stormshield outdoor car cover.
