I am delighted to have been involved with the private treaty sale of this immensely collectable and historic Stratos HF Stradale, a totally original variant, one of the purported 492 built by Lancia but with far fewer known to exist. Registered in 1977 to its first owner and only a handful since, thankfully #000 has been spared the fashionable trend of fitting rally spec flared arches and fragile coffin star alloys, so it remains with authentic narrow body panels and genuine 14” Campagnolo alloys which despite a few years of paint, remain in excellent condition. With the hand throttle and choke primed, the Dino V6 fires into life from cold with ease and sounds fantastic! It revs quickly without any smoke and idles smoothly thanks to recent work stripping and adjusting the jets on the carbs. The oil pressure sits calmly at idle whilst rising and falling within the realms one would want to see on throttle. Body panels numbers are visible inside the front clam and door shut as desired, the front & rear clams and body panels display no signs of historic damage and whilst the paintwork shows signs of age and stone chips, this gives further assurance of the originality and only adds to the overall appeal of this Stratos. The interior materials are quite clearly still original, from the black vinyl dash to the white perforated headlining and importantly the fawn Suede seat upholstery being in excellent condition. Carpets, lights and switches are all correct and with expert detailing of these materials, the interior is sure to show it primary quality and colours. Call to discuss your specific wishes and requirements • Matching Numbers from first ownership documents • Genuine one of only 492 STRATOS HF built by the factory• Totally original and un-restored• Road version of the 3 times Rally World championship winner Lancia was at the forefront of rallying in the 1970’s with its famous Fulvia’s, however the company knew it had to move forward with its engineering and creativity to keep pace with competition and so called for an all new design. 1970 - Turin Motor Show, Bertone un-veiled the stunning Lancia Stratos Zero to the public’s amazement and by 1971, Lancia had worked with the famous design house to make the Zero a striking production reality and created what is now recognised to be one of the most iconic mid-engined sports cars in automotive history The Lancia Stratos HF Originally Lancia had to battle with its parent company Fiat and fellow racing stable mate, Ferrari, to use its first choice of engine; the beautifully engineered 2.4ltr DOHC Dino V6. However with Enzo Ferrari finally agreeing to commit to a run of 500 power units, the Stratos HF was put into limited production in 1972. With total domination and 3 World Rally championships in 1974,1975 & 1976, the world of Rallying & young boy’s bedroom walls were soon to be changed forever. With its light compact design the Stratos had an immediate racing benefit over its competition as it was said to change direction without any energetic or aggressive inputs by drivers. This agility mated to the small powerful 190bhp Dino V6 with its triple carbs, matched with the latest 5 speed ZF gearbox, also gave the edge on performance whilst the fully adjustable all-independant double wishbone suspension and all round disc brakes gave the dynamic Stratos abilities way ahead of its era, so much so it continued to be successfully campaigned by privateers well after Fiat killed off further development and the Stratos as a whole, but by then the legend had been set in stone.
